About Tom Fulery

Who writes this journal and how it is put together.

What this journal is

Tom Fulery is an independent hockey journal. It began as a home for one long-running obsession — the endless, argumentative project of imagining a better-realigned National Hockey League — and grew into a place to write about the rest of the sport as well: how a season is built, what roles actually do, which books are worth the shelf space, and how to read the news without swallowing a story whole.

How it is made

Everything here is written by hand for readers, not for search engines. Articles are assembled from publicly available rules, published calendars and general hockey knowledge. We do not run a newsroom, we do not break stories, and we do not pretend to. When we describe a mechanism we explain the reasoning, and when we do not know something we say so plainly instead of filling the gap with a number.

What it is not

  • Not a betting service and not a source of predictions.
  • Not an official league, club or broadcaster publication.
  • Not a place for paid placements disguised as journalism.

Corrections

If something is wrong, say so. Corrections are welcome, they are published openly when they change the meaning of an article, and they are appreciated more than compliments.

Read it for the hockey. This journal explains how the sport works; it does not predict results and does not sell anything. Where a number is not publicly checkable we say so instead of inventing one.
